Where you will always see a Doctor of Audiology

Hearing Aid Dispensing and Fitting

At Quality Hearing & Audiology Center, we deliver a variety of different devices including personal amplification systems (PSAPs), digital hearing aids, Lyric devices, and everything in between. After selecting hearing devices that are correct for you during the hearing aid evaluation, your doctor of audiology will program them using real-ear measurements (REMs) to meet your hearing needs. You will learn how to use the devices, how to insert and remove the hearing aids from your ear, how to change batteries or recharge batteries, and how to care/clean your new hearing devices. This appointment will typically be one hour. We suggest bringing a family member or significant other to this appointment to help you remember all the information so that you will not be overwhelmed. Four ears are better than two!

Understanding your hearing aids

When you experience hearing aids for the first time, it will be overwhelming. Hearing loss is a slow, gradual process that you don’t realize is happening. Suddenly, when hearing aids are placed in your ear, you can hear again which can be overwhelming and emotional. This is normal! The goal of hearing aids to make soft and average sounds audible and comfortable, but the sound you hear should be comfortable. Please be honest with your doctor of audiology because we can fine-tune the hearing device to be more comfortable for you in order to help you adjust to the new experience. Don’t forget to ask questions or discuss any concerns you may have with your Audiologist.

Adjusting to hearing aids

Attitude is one important key to success with hearing aids. Hearing aid studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude do better with hearing aids. If you, as well as your spouse or family, approach your hearing aid fitting with a positive outlook you will have a much better listening experience more quickly. Keep in mind that it may take some time to get used to the sounds you were missing, and by working closely with your hearing professional, you will get the most out of your new hearing aids. It is important to wear the devices on a daily basis to help you adjust to the new sounds. We will have several appointments to help with the adjustment period to your new hearing devices.
